In 2008 Tom Preston-Werner, Chris Wanstrath, and PJ Hyett founded GitHub to make software development more collaborative. What began as a place to share software code has turned into a community where millions of people work together on projects ranging from huge open source software applications to important pieces of legislation to cutting-edge hardware and machines. GitHub is allowing them to do so easier, smarter and faster than ever before. Every day the GitHub team is astounded (and let’s face it, psyched!) by the ways their community is using their platform. And they hesitate to call it that, because that feels a little limiting.
